Postcards from China

Happy almost weekend everybody – to end the week, here are some of my favourite pictures I took in China! From Tian’anmen Square to the Terracotta Warriors, look out for lots of upcoming posts featuring these destinations and more.

BEIJING

Beijing is an enigma – one second I’d be mentally complaining about the smog and crowds and one minute I’d be staring in awe at an ancient building. While I didn’t love it as a city, the attractions make it a must-see destination.

DATONG

I went to Datong with one purpose…to see the Hanging Monastery. There is a very amusing blog post coming up about why I failed at that mission, but at least I got to see the stunning Yungang Grottoes.

XIAN

My few hours in Xian were spent solely at the Terracotta Warriors, and while I was quite impressed, I wasn’t as impressed as I had hoped. Still, I’m glad I went. More on this later.

SHANGHAI

Shanghai may have clawed its way up to the top of my list of favourite places. My first day there I sent a text describing it as “a mix of all the good parts of London, Beijing and New York City” and I still stand by that! I could see myself living in Shanghai and 2 nights, even in the rain wasn’t enough. Not to worry, I will regale you with endless thoughts on this wild city at a later date.
